We love eating at the bar at Masu in northeast. Masu gives off a great, fun vibe and the bar area is always crowded. Off their normal dinner menu we got the 5 Seasons Roll (Ahi Tuna, Asparagus Tempura, Avocado, Gobo, Spicy Sauce, $15) and sashimi (above). This roll is my favorite out of all that I’ve eaten here. Too bad it’s not offered on the late night menu!
At dinner I ordered the Crab and Egg Drop Udon with Chinese Broccoli, Chili and Shiitake Mushrooms, $12.50. The broth was rather sweet for my taste but it was pretty hearty.
We saw someone across the bar order hamachi kama and David immediately asked about it. They don’t serve yellowtail hamachi kama but they do have Salmon Hamachi Kama off the menu. Topped with spicy mayo and served with ponzu, this off-the-menu item is definitely worth asking about.
Off their late night menu, we ordered the Crunchy Spicy Salmon (Scottish Salmon, Avocado, Chili, Ginger Garlic Sauce- with jalapenos, $10, normally $14); Firecracker (Shrimp Tempura, Crab, Avocado, Cucumber with Spicy Tuna and Tempura Flakes, $11.50, normally $15); Dynamite (Tuna & Albacore Tuna with Avocado and Chili Sauce, $5.5, normally $7); and some sashimi.
Beef Udon with Braised Sweet and Spicy Short Ribs, $11. Warm, slurpy noodles in a sweet broth.
For lunch, we ordered Robata Hotate (Scallop), $5 and Pork Belly Ramen (with Pork Belly, Slow Roasted Pork Shoulder and Soft Poached Egg), $12.50. The scallops were great.
During lunch I also ordered the Ebi Yakisoba (Panfried Noodles with Jumbo Shrimp), $11. Lots of shrimp!
