Update 3/3/2013- Kinsen is now closed.
A group of us went to Kinsen following a movie at Lagoon Cinema. At that point in time, it was still warm enough to sit outside, so we took advantage of 1 of their 4 or so outdoor tables. Kinsen is still fairly new to uptown and Minneapolis and they have many daily specials to draw in new customers. The inside is modern and trendy and the outdoor tables allow you to people watch in Uptown.
Lauren ordered the Togorashi Seared Tuna with mixed field greens, picked carrot, orange segments, with a citrus galangal dressing, $14. I got the Miso Wild Mushroom Ramen with crimini mushrooms, menma, kamaboko, tomago, roasted corn, and spicy mushroom miso broth, $12. So here’s the ramen breakdown:
Menma– Japanese fermented bamboo shoots that frequently top ramen soups
Kamaboko– Japanese fish cakes
Tomago– Japenese omlette
Roasted corn– non existent
Broth– sweet and not that spicy
We also had the Chicken Curry Samosas with mango puree, $6, Spring Roll with house peanut sauce, $6, and Vegetable Tempura with ponzu, $6. The samosas had great flavor and the appetizer was a generous portion. Ally ordered the Pad Thai with a choice of meat for $3, or seafood for $4, carrot, yellow tofu, peanut, and sprouts, $11. With a daily happy hour from 4-7pm, I could return for some more $3 appetizers and $3 house wine/$4 tap beers.
